The summer days are heating up which means you'll want to hit the water early to get on the artificial bite. Fishing at first or last light gives you a shot at speckled trout, bluefish, and my personal favorite red drum on topwater. Soft plastics from Outer Banks Lure Company or Z Man under popping corks like 4 Horsemen also work great.
Look for grass in 2 to 5 feet of water with deeper water nearby. If you're after big red drum they’re here. You can catch them bait fishing in 10 feet or deeper near the Oregon Inlet Bridge. Bring plenty of bait or cast bucktails like Meat Hog or Bowed Up or large paddle tails 5 inches or more from Z Man or OBX Lures. Slow roll them on the bottom or work the water column where you're marking fish.
The Spanish bite is slowing down but blues are still hanging just behind the bar for those trolling spoons on planers. Large schools of red drum have also been running along the beach in 10 to 50 feet of water.
Mahi and amberjack have been showing regularly within 20 miles when weather allows and the shipwrecks are holding black sea bass and triggerfish.
Keep checking in for the best fishing report on the beach and give me a call to go catching. Much loveCaptain VinnyLet’s go catching
